Thursday's Tip - Scanning Artwork

A lot of the blogs I visit have a theme day. I thought Thursdays could be my tip day.

Today's tip:
Instead of keeping paper copies of your kids' artwork, scan them and reduce the clutter in your home.

I just did my first scan of Bea's work.
She loves to use scissors, tape, and draw. We love it too.

Yes. My cats were thin once.

I came across this picture today in my office cleanup.

My cats are such beefy felines now.

It is so cute to see them sleeping together.

My Energy Has Returned

I found out on Friday that I have a new job.

I will be working for the same company but at a different location with some new and some old job duties. One difference about this job is that I will be the only one in my department. At my present location, there are 5 people in the department. So I will probably be checking my e-mail lots. hint hint.

Isn't it amazing how draining nervous energy is? Yesterday was the first day that I didn't feel like I was trying to keep my eyes open with toothpicks. Ugh - that is a bad mental picture.

So now on to transition mode. A different kind of energy drain.
Have a good day!

2.22.08

As we enter the weekend - I am looking forward to warmer weather. 10 degrees this morning!!

My cell phone seems to be dying. I was thinking I would take up a collection to buy myself a iPhone. Maybe I should start with my friend Scott since he loves his so much.

And lastly, my daughter loves to mess with our cat. This picture is just so precious.

Have a great weekend!

So far I have been at work for an hour and have accomplished nothing.
Sounds like a great day so far. :)

Drop off with D went okay - no tears.
Now I just get to look forward to sitting in the Family Locker Room for a few times today.
I won't go into details.

Back To Work!!!

Well... here we are folks. I go back to work tomorrow. I took a quick pic of D. He is getting big. Think of me tomorrow and I will probably post a quick update at some point tomorrow when/if I get a moment.

Great 'Green' Website and More!

I was talking with my friend Ms. P today and she mentioned aluminum bottles for water. So I did a search on the internet and came up with SIGG bottles. I also found this great website for all of you wanting to become a bit greener in your lives. Reusable Bags I will also put a link to this website with my other favorites.

It is amazing how much the internet has exploded for me in the last 6 weeks. I have really become more interested in searching for information and I even used a cooking blog to help me roast a chicken last week. That website is very cool as well. It is designed to help those of us that know nothing about cooking. It has step by step videos with difficulty ratings... FUN! It is called Start Cooking. Go check it out.

Bottled vs Tap

Water...

Do you buy bottled water?
What are your reasons for buying bottled water?
Convenience? Taste? Health Reasons?

I have been drinking a lot of water lately because I am breastfeeding. So this topic was something I have been thinking about lately. I also saw a television program on bottled water and how children aren't getting the fluoride they need because they aren't drinking tap water.

I was buying bottled water mainly for convenience when I was pregnant and still working. Then I realized how much waste I was creating with all this discarded plastic. Mpls does collect those bottles for recycling so that is good but my workplace doesn't.

The tap water in my home is tasty and now I struggle with what to put it in. Research on Nalgene bottles and those similar to them that are marked with the recycle #7 on them leach a chemical called bisphenol A (BPA). This chemical mimics estrogen and one study in the April 2003 issue of Current Biology states that BPA does nasty things to rats and mice that range from a low sperm count to changes in tissue that resemble early stage breast cancer.

A side note to this conversation is that the newest trend in baby bottles is glass because of BPA.

So once again, what won't give me cancer.

Winding Down

As my maternity leave winds down, I am having mixed feelings about work.
I have a few options but nothing I am REALLY excited about. I suppose that means I need to move on.

I am tired.

Weather

Whoa. Did you see the wind today? In our neighborhood it came through and cleaned all the snow from this morning off the roofs and cars.

5 weeks old today

My boy is 5 weeks old today.
Soon I will stop counting off his age.
I think everyone expects me to keep track of this until he is about two.
So I will.

I don't have an updated picture today.
But he has had more pictures taken of him than B ever did.
Amazing things, digital cameras.

Ever been there?

In the last month, I have been watching many television programs about England. This country has always been a place I would like to visit. Part of my family comes from England - my Mother's mother's side. I suppose part of my fascination with that part of the world is because of my mom.
I just watched a program about King Arthur. It was about how the story started with one man and how each aspect of the legend was based in fact. The people, grail, sword in the stone, and places mentioned each have a piece of truth to them but the legend itself is not historically true.
Then the Jane Austen stories make life and love seem very romantic. Plus the television programs and movies are beautiful to look at. I love the homes, clothes, and sounds.

This church is in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. There is a ancient oak tree by the church that is said to be the biggest in England. Isn't it wonderful?

Book Stash

A friend of mine recently titled a blog entry similarly to the above title. It made me think about all the books I have. MD and I have acquired quite a few books in our home. I think books are one of the hardest things for me to give up.

I would love to catalog our books but is it worth it?

Are you watching?

Have you been watching the Jane Austen series on Masterpiece?

It has been a great series. I have only seen 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Sense and Sensibility' before this. Now I have seen 'Mansfield Park', 'Northanger Abby' and a dramatization of Jane's life. Mr Darcy is by far my favorite of the leading men and you can watch him in 'Pride and Prejudice' next week! (Not hard to look at either!)

Check out the Masterpiece website for more information.

February 1

I walked outside today and it is balmy! I never thought I would think that about 14 degrees.
But compared to 14 below - I suppose it is.

January is now behind me and February is here.

I am looking forward to spring.
