The old man was out tonight and called me about midnight 'cause he thought he was locked out of the parking ramp. Turns out he didn't pull on the door hard enough.
So I got a paper cut today while opening up a cardstock weight envelope... on my first finger. It makes typing interesting. I hate it when I can feel my skin separating. ugh.
My friend Meema just got back from NYC and you HAVE TO go to this post and see the poster she took a picture of! Wow. I don't know what I think about that.
So when did I start calling MD the 'old man'? I don't know. I just think it is funny.

So much for gas savings... or slow down jackass!
With gas prices being through the roof and my one-way 20 mile commute, I have made a conscious decision to drive slower. Some people have not.
My own vice (Mom, don't read this part) is talking on the phone in the car.
Today I was driving the speed limit with a motorcyclist on my bumper. It is a fairly busy street and as he passed me he screamed 'Get off the phone!'. Geez. I wanted to scream 'Stop being an asshole and drive the speed limit with a helmet!' But I didn't.
My sister said to me that her husband in those types of situatons says 'I'm calmer than you!'
Unfortunately, I am not.
I think (again, Mom divert your eyes) I should move to rural america. I am so fed up with people who think they need to be so aggressive on the road. Living in the city lends itself to behavior that you wouldn't see in a rural area where everyone knows you. City = anonymity.
So please remember when you are behind a car going the speed limit - take a deep breath and wave as you pass.

Tooth is here!!!
Houston - We have tooth!!!
I felt D's first tooth today. Finally! B had her first tooth on 2/27/05. So our kids got their first tooth at approximately the same time.

It's hard not to
Today is one of those day that I want to write and bitch about work. But I can't. My workplace has a blog policy so I will just say that I hope we can have some 'normal' days soon.
Having a blog and not being about to talk about work is strange. It is such a big part of my life and I don't really share it with my family or friends. I don't really socialize with co-workers outside of work for many reasons which include 'Hey, I just spent 8 hours being nice to you. I don't think I have another hour in me right now. I have to save it up for my husband.' Unfortunately, MD might say that some days I used up all the nice at work.
That all being said, I really do like 98% of my coworkers. I even like my work. But I would really enjoy it if my questions were answered in a timely manner. That is so frustrating.
Okay. This was more of a post than I expected it to be.
Have a great night!
I will be watching 'So You Think You Can Dance' with Ya-ya.
Can't wait!

Just helpin' out the Old Man
As I have said before, I am not a cook. But I am starting to be interested in finding yummy recipes - especially something I can cook.
I was looking through my bookmarks and found a link to this blog. If you follow the link to this post you will find what looks to be a yummy salad. Mexicorn salad.
If you try it, let me know how it is in the comments.
Oh yeah and the reason I wrote the title to this post is because MD does 99% of the cooking so I try to help by deciding what we are having for dinner.
Happy Eating!

Kind of a shocker
An important part of my work is ordering for others at my workplace. Today, via e-mail, I found out that one of the vendor's I order from weekly - Simon Deliver's - will no longer be in business. How crazy is that? It makes my confidence in the economy go right down the tubes.
Thanks George!
Hey Meema - how much longer do I have to listen to this dork talk about how the economy isn't that bad? I know, I know - one man doesn't have that kind of power but he is still a dork.
There I feel better - how 'bout you?
Thanks George!

I need an intermission
For this intermission, we will be listening to 'Lollipops and Roses' by Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass from the 'Whipped Cream & Other Delights' album.
I wish I was able to put that song on here - I just don't have the time this morning.
It is 9am and I am already ready to pull my hair out this morning.
I am doing all the purchasing for an opening of a new location and it isn't going well.
Not much support.
What is new? Everyone is too busy with their own work.
I am going to hyperventilate with all the darn deep breathing I am doing.
There - now I have a smile!
Ah! I can start working again. My software is back up and running.
Thanks for reading!
And remember anyone can leave a comment - so please let me know what you think.
Have a beautiful Monday.

I've become my Mom
I first want to apologize to my Mom for all the things I did as a kid to make her have to come out of the house a bazillion times to tell me and neighbor kids to stop doing whatever it was we were doing that brought her out of the house. Sorry Mom! Love you.
Then I have to say that I have become my Mom. Shit. It is a tough job.
Okay.
I first had to tell them to stop picking the flowers, then stop eating all the raspberries, then stop getting water from the birdbath. See I am not completely bitchy - I was concerned for their health!
Some days I wish we had a 10 foot tall fence with a hall monitor outside to keep them out of trouble - but then I remember what I liked about being a kid. Running around the neighborhood all day, building forts, playing games, getting dirty. Just being a kid. How could B and D be kids with a freaking fence? It shuts out the rest of the world. I am not going to live my life that way.
Now when they are gone, that is another story. The fence can go up. Kidding. Well, maybe not.

This is one of those days
Today is one of those days that I wish I was pregnant again.
I have a sinus headache, a canker sore, and I have a tire of pudge around the middle and no baby inside to blame it on. Poor me right?
It is so good when pregnancy is good. You can eat whatever you want to and are even encouraged to eat more. If you know me and my eating habits you know that I eat like a bird usually. Man, when I was prego I could eat more than MD and faster as well. It was amazing.
So I hope all you expecting Mom's out there are enjoying being pregnant. Happy baby growing!

Are we on the downside of summer already?
I was talking to some friends at church on Sunday and one said we were half way through summer already. I have to say that I think summer is just gearing up. It didn't get really hot until this past weekend and I guess I don't like it when people are 'mostly empty'.
I took some pictures of our yard this past week.
One is of our tomatos, brocolli, raspberries, and marigolds, another is of some day lilies, and the last is of B in the side yard.
Enjoy!

And so it begins or need to buy stock in bandaids
B has fallen down twice in the last week and scraped her knees. Today with the knee scrapin,' she also put a small puncture in the heel of her hand. Please say a small prayer tonight that we don't end up in the emergency room with a broken bone soon. (Knocking on my head as I type.)
D on the other hand is in need of band aids because he is a scratcher. I think he gets that from me. Sorry kid.

Happy 4th of July!
Besides the U.S. declaring independence from Britain on this day, lots of other stuff happened too. (Well Duh Cate!)
Thomas Jefferson (1826), John Adams(1826), and James Monroe(1831) died on this day.
In 1845, Henry David Thoreau moved into his shack on Walden Pond.
In 1997, the U.S. Pathfinder probe landed on Mars.
In 2008, Cate, MD, B, and D got up and had a wonderful day.
Hope you do too!

Sweet Niblits!
Obviously, when a family has two kids - comparisons are made and difference and similarites are talked about with everyone from your spouse to the lady waiting behind us at the grocery store.
When B was born, she was a big baby. 8lbs 6 ozs. But now she is almost 4 and still wears 2T pants. She is long and thin right now and last night I caught her wearing D's 3 month pants again.
Now when D was born, he was about the same size. (Sorry I can't remember the weight. That is the curse of the 2nd born.) But he is closing in FAST on 20 lbs and he is 6 months TODAY!!! Happy 6 months!
So when our server at our favorite local pizza place said that he could guess how old D was... I laughed and said 'Okay, how old do you think he is?'
He said '10 Months and very advanced for his age'. (Obviously trying to soothe me if he guessed too young.)
I said 'Nope! 6 months tomorrow.'
He said 'Sweet Niblets! What are you feeding him?' The look of surprise was evident and the response was so immediate that the table burst into laughter.
The table which included our friends Ya ya and Stees laughed long and hard about that one.
Sweet Niblets!

Clothes on the Line
When we moved into our house, I didn't think twice about the two clothesline poles in the back yard. The previous owner also had the entire length of her basement strung with clothesline which we used at first but then not. They just weren't strong enough for what I wanted to hang.
The Star Tribune has an article on the website today talking about this phenomenon becoming more prevalent. That just boggles my mind! When did it stop being something most people did? I can understand not hanging all your clothing out all the time but don't people just hang the big stuff outside - like sheets and bedspreads? I guess not.
Personally, I love to hang stuff on the line. Everything comes off the line smelling like sun and wind. Yeah - you get the occasional bug but I can handle that.
Hanging clothes on the line is one of those meditative chores. No thinking necessary. And oh yeah - it saves some energy not to be running that electric shock generator.

Ms.Crabby McCrabberton
Wow.
I don't think I could get ANY CRABBIER today. Whew.
I guess I am on the road to recovery since I can recognize it. Right?
One side effect of crabbiness is impulsiveness. Not good.
Another issue of crabbiness is writing in your blog about something that REALLY made me mad yesterday TWICE. I had to erase both entries because I KNOW it will get me into more trouble. Not worth it.
Deep Breath... in the nose ............................. and out the mouth....................................
Ugh.
