New Year!
Resolutions have always been something I have thought about for the New Year but I haven't ever kept track of them to see if I followed through. I hesitate to write anything down in such a public place because I don't want to be held accountable by anyone except for myself. That may be considered chickening out but if I come up with anything I would be happy to share it with you in person.
While I don't have any resolutions, I know I don't want to make any emergency trips to the hospital. Can we make sure that doesn't happen?
In 2010 we have one big change to look forward to - B starts Kindergarten.
I can't believe that my little girl is going to be starting school. She is going to be so ready. We are already impressed with her reading ability and her eagerness to learn. I really hope that continues.
Happy 2010!!

Sunny?
The winter is such a downer with days being so short and then when it isn't sunny for weeks on end - it gets hard to be very excited to do anything.
I am cleaning up and deleting information that needs to get done and the end of the year seems to be a good time to do it.
The car battery seems to still be working as well. Weird.
Have a good rest of your Monday.

In the Hometown
We made it to the HomeTown yesterday.
Traveling there was not too bad. The kids only started asking if we were there yet when we had been in the car for 5 minutes. Ugh. A 'almost two year old' asking if we were there yet is pretty cute.
The L's are getting ready to leave. They have been here since Tuesday.
Have a Happy Monday.

Oh the Weather!
We watched a little Juletide this morning, the cows are lowing (B's DS game), and D seems to be keeping stuff in his belly. The only problem is that there is a faint whiff of puke in the air. Must clean the rug today. Later.
I am looking out the window at heavy wet snow falling very fast. Maybe we will be able to get outside and build that snowman after all.
I hope you have/had a Very Merry Xmas. I have.

Weather Update 10:25 Wednesday Night
So we are getting lots of snow.
The evening started out with some sleet on the way home and then the snow started about 6p.
I think we have about 2 to 3 inches on the ground so far.
I am wrapping presents and B is still awake and calling for me every 15 minutes or so.
Naughty Girl.
Stay Warm!

Keep Hoping
I keep hoping that the weather guys are going to be proven wrong but I am not holding my breath. I kind of did this to myself though. I have been so frickin' positive about winter and then I went around saying 'It can snow at Christmastime and that is it'. Well - be careful what you wish for right? Cripes.
'Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, please to put a penny in the old man's hat, if you haven't got a penny, a hay penny will do, if you haven't got a hay penny, God Bless You.' is running through my head. Living in the Big City - I see some homeless people with signs asking for help. What do I do? Do you hand cash out to strangers? I would like to help but what is the best way?
Tonight I will be wrapping. I am going to try to get most of it done but leave a little for the Eldest to help me with. But as parent's know - 'help' from kids is sometimes more work.
I have resigned myself to staying home from church on Christmas Eve. I can't justify asking MD or someone else to be out in the yuck at midnight to watch my kidlets. I wish we didn't sing on Christmas Eve. Maybe with our new director - that will change. The thing is that as the kids get older - it will stop being an issue. (I look forward to the kids getting older for that reason.)
Merry Christmas Eve Eve! I hope you and yours have a safe and happy holiday season.

Winter Solstice
We celebrated the winter solstice with neighbors today.
The shortest day of the year is almost over... yeah!
I really think that actively trying to like winter has helped get me through this dark time.
But I am definitely looking forward to more sun.

All is Quiet
It is quiet here in the house. Everyone else is asleep. I should be asleep.
It is my favorite time of day. I can think without someone asking me where the edit forms are or if I will take them potty. (Obviously to me but maybe not to you - the first example was work and the second example was from home...)
I feel like I am in a vehicle that is moving along but I have no control of when it will stop and we are really coming up on the target quickly. I know someday I will miss all the craziness (at least that is what I am told) but I would love a break from it right now.
Xmas shopping is underway. I heard some advertisement on the radio talking about last minute shopping and thought I better get my act together. I am so bad about pre-planning. Again - I wish time would stop and I could do everything I want to do and then we can start up again with our regularly scheduled program.
And as you may or may not be aware - depending on where you live - Winter in MN is here and really it hasn't been TOO bad. I told MD that as long as the cold snaps don't last more than a few days - I am okay. I found a pair of shoes that keep my feet nice and toasty, my mittens keep my hands mostly warm, and my coat isn't bulky. So two out of three ain't bad. I hope the snow can stay away while we are traveling next week. Good Luck - right?!

Wed. Nes. Day
It's Wednesday.
Boring 'ol Wednesday.
I found some really cool shoes at Target today for the D-ster. They have rubber soles so hopefully it will help him when he is over confident and takes a corner too fast. He is on the floor a lot.
Not much to report today. D seems to be over his cold... YEAH! B is healthy except for the case of crabbiness she has in the morning when we try to get her out of bed.
Well - I should go set the table.
Hope you are having a good night and staying warm where-ever you are.

Life with Kids and Life
It is so hard to realize that my kids are going to keep getting older and older. It is a double edged sword so to speak. On the one hand - I would like to keep my kids at the behavior I have all figured out but on the other hand - I would like them to move out someday.
D is almost two. I can't hardly believe it. He started saying the 's' sound this week. So instead of 'bah' for bus - he actually says 'bus'.
B is 5 and while she isn't in kindergarten - she is really learning a lot. She amazes and delights me whenever I ask her to read something. Her ability to read is something that has really blossomed in the last few weeks and it sometimes makes me wonder if she should have been in school. I then remind myself that we didn't keep her out for academic reasons.
This holiday season hasn't been an easy one. I have been distracted, sad, busy, and very happy for the last few weeks.
We learned last week that our choir director has decided to move on to another position. He isn't just my choir director but a very good friend and godfather to my son. While I wish him the best in his new position - I will miss singing with him.
Our Lessons and Carols concert was one of the best concerts I have participated in at St Paul's. I was telling my sister that I was moved to tears in one of the songs because of how well we were singing a piece (and because of Scott leaving). When I graduated from Luther, I never thought I would have a choral experience like Nordic ever again. I was wrong. Singing at St Paul's last Sunday afternoon was that good. Maybe we really pulled out the stops for Scott, but I believe that we are really coming together as a group and I hope with our next director that we can continue to move in that direction.
As we move into the last week before Christmas, there are many things to do. But I hope to focus more on the 'reason for the season' and take some time to enjoy life.

Ahhh Dentiswy
Got some teeth filled today. I think the anticipation is the worst! I broke a tooth a couple months back and with that episode, I am now hyper sensitive about my teeth. I have even had dreams about teeth breaking. Y.U.C.K.
What I really wish is that I could get my fillings done without needing to be numb because it takes 15 minutes to get numb and 4 hours to get over it. I am sitting here trying to have my mouth in a comfortable position but not have a line of spit dripping down my chin. Another Yuck.
When I can eat again - I think I am going to treat myself to a bowl of soup and a chai latte. Yum.

Snow and Snacks
I am actually excited about getting some snow tomorrow. 3 inches doesn't sound so bad. 40 mph winds do though so let's hope it isn't slippery.
I am sitting here eating an old favorite snack. Midget pickles and wrapping cheese. Yum.
I have to ask though - what is the serving size of a midget pickle because I have to say that I think I could eat more than I should.

Some Sunday Randomness
I have always said that one of the perks of having kids is that there would always be someone in the house that would be able to learn all that new fangled technology faster than me. I think one of the reasons kids do so well with computers is because they have no fear. We tried to hide Firefox from B so that she wouldn't watch stuff or play games without us and she watched me find it once and then could navigate back to it. Kids.
I watched the squirrel in the heated bird bath this morning. We have a cute squirrel with a short tail in the neighborhood. He is up in the crabapple tree right now having a snack. I am always surprised that they can get so far out on the branch without falling right off the end.
I felt really good singing this morning. Usually about the time we have to sing in church, all the junk in my throat and sinuses is good and stirred up so I have a hard time. But today it stayed put.
It is finally getting cold here. We were at 15 degrees this morning with a wind chill factor of something below that. I am really trying hard to be positive about this season instead of just hating it. I know I need to be better prepared. I spent about 2 hours online searching for different hat options. It would be nice to wear a hat and not have hat head. One of the suggestions was to have a short hair cut. I don't agree with that. Any time you have a hair style with any volume you are going to be in trouble.
D is down for his nap and I can hear him counting... 2... 3.... 4.... 5.... 2.... 3... 4.... 5 Sometimes we will hear a one or an eight but he likes that sequence right now.
I did make sugar cookie dough last night so we are going to try to bake cookies tonight and then probably frost another day. Hopefully the dough will turn out okay. I did the dough by myself last night with a little help from B. I had to wonder a few times if I was doing it correctly.
Alright - I should get back to my knitting.
It is sunny here today so it is nice to sit at the table and daydream out the window.

The Countdown is on!
There is so much to do in the next three weeks before Christmas.
My parents were frosting sugar cookies last night and that reminded me that there is LOTS of baking I want to do and that I want MD to do.
I also have to get on the ball with my gift giving. I want to make lots of gifts but that takes time and planning which can be hard with two active children in tow. I wish I could sit in front of the computer and watch Hulu and knit but I have to focus on what is going on - so I have to watch something that I know by heart or that I can just listen to.
Please don't tell me how many days before Christmas because #1 I can figure it out for myself but I don't want to and #2 I am in denial - which pretty much goes with #1 - i just wanted to write a list.
Then on top of everything else - we need to clean out the garage this weekend and now that it is freaking cold outside - it will be fun!
I did a little to clean out the garage last week by putting up a swirly lited Xmas tree that we got from the Anderson's in Dubuque about 5 years ago and also putting up our heated bird bath that we got from my parents a while ago as well. So now I spend a cold 5 minutes running out to the bird bath with water and I hope birds find it.
In other news - we still haven't found soft blankie... I think I am more sad about it than B.
Okay - Dad. Two days in a row! I hope you and Mom are having a good day. I miss you. We are really looking forward to seeing you in three weeks exactly!

Quotables from the Little Man
'I'm gonna eat you up! Hrum!!
Go 'Way Mommy
My Turn!
Where did Sissy Go, Mom?
Lovey! Where are you??
Toots Mom.
Yights Mommy More Yights!
Toap too Daddy!
He is growing up so fast. He is 23 months old today. But all kids change so much when they are this young.
In other news - our beloved Ya ya is having surgery on her foot tomorrow to remove a bone chip.
So please send healing thoughts her way.
We also had a bit of snow today. I am ready for winter to be here so we can move through it and get to Spring. I am looking forward to Dec 21st so we can celebrate the coming of Winter and the Shortest Day. (Trying to think positively about the acky weather.)
Hope you have fun looking at all the Christmas Yights!
