Nervous Nelly

Thank goodness it is Friday.
I am so ready for the weekend.

Lots of things to do tomorrow that aren't in the routine which makes me a little nervous.
I like my boring routine and getting out of it is a bit nerve racking.

One of those things I get to do tomorrow is visit the doctor.
I think I have bruised a rib or two from my eight... or ten week coughing jag.
The final straw was when I sneezed and I think I felt something move yesterday.
I know they won't be able to do anything for me but the not knowing is worse than that.

Now please don't let me get the H1N1 at the clinic. cripes.

Update: After 3 x-rays - it was determined that my intercostal muscles are the culprit. So while I could have had a prescription for vicadin - I decided to stick with ibu.

ready for the weekend!

It is raining and dreary here today.
A perfect day to be home putting away toys, sorting clothes for give away, and knitting/reading while a frequently watched movie is playing in the background.

But instead I am sitting where I am always sitting at 9:47a.
It is so hard to be productive when my focus is somewhere else.

The Week of Candy

As I was starting to write this post I thought - what am I going to write about this morning, I need a title! And then I knew what I would write about. I want to think I am a pretty flexible person but really I need A to come before B.
But today I will be flexible and talk about today instead of getting wrapped up in a catchy title.

B went to daycare in her 'costume' today. You know it is really hard to talk to a 5 year old who KNOWS what she wants into doing anything. MD and I were trying really hard this year to get her all the pieces of her costume so she looked like a vampire but there is absolutely NO compromise in this girl. Which on the one hand I am proud of and on the other hand I am SO frustrated with. I am glad she is okay wearing her own clothes for her costume but the orange dress isn't very 'vampire-like'. I also was suggesting red lipstick but she didn't like the feel. So once again we are trying to remember that it is about what she wants to do and not try to push what is 'better' on her.

D is going to be a scarecrow but we will see how long that will last as well.
I promise to try to get pictures and post them later.
We have church Halloween tonight.

Happy Halloween!!!

Tick Tock

I was sitting at the dinner table this week and couldn't remember how old I was.
I wondered what that meant.
MD just walked by, read this, and said, "It means your old. Duh."

I choose to think that I have entered the 'age-ambiguous' time of my life.
For example - no one asks me how old I am anymore because it is an awkward question for a thirty-something. Does the person asking think I look older than thirty?
And I am no longer waiting anxiously to get older. Black balloons and 'over the hill' are exciting only for those birthday planners.

So at the dinner table I ended up putting an extra year on. I am not going to tell you what that number was. I guess that is another part of getting older - forgetting as a way to cope.

I really do love my husband...

Since the early years of my marriage, I have wondered out loud many times why on earth someone thought it was a good idea to share a bed with another human being on a regular basis.
It could have been a man's idea for obvious reasons or else it was pushed by women thinking that it was progress. Ugh.

Here are some reasons I don't like to sleep with my life partner:
  1. I am a bit lighter than him so I roll to the middle and then am accused of 'hogging' the bed.
  2. I don't generate as much body heat so I am accused of stealing the covers or 'hogging' the bed when I snuggle with him and fall asleep.
  3. I like to go to sleep later than him which means I move the bed when I finally go to bed an hour or more after him. Which means he opens his eyes and looks at the clock so he can make me feel guilty.
Does every spouse, partner, 'bed sharer' feel this way or am I alone?

I say - lets rise up and show this culture that we want separate beds and better yet - separate rooms! Let the kids sleep together. They sleep through each other's noise and don't even change position when they get hit in the arm by the other's foot as they are traveling around the bed in their sleep.

You need more reasons to have your own bedroom? You should read this to confirm even further why we should sleep separately. His-and-her wings?? Now you are talking.

Okay - I am off to put my ice cold feet on my hubby. My sweet revenge.

My Sweet B

I have caught myself telling B things that I remember my Mom telling me when I was little.
No, not 'stand up straight' (and yes, I just sat up) but 'hurry up' has been a big one lately. She has started tying her own shoes and it has to be perfect (thanks MD) or else it will be done over.

If you are a parent - isn't it interesting to watch those traits you associate with yourself pop out in your offspring?

B is definitely her own person. I wasn't as creative or thoughtful as she is. On many occasions this summer, letters and presents were delivered to different neighbors. I loved it because it meant her craft was going to a new home where it would be loved and not in a box or sitting on the table gathering stuff. She definitely has her own village here in the big city that she has fostered and cared for all by herself.

As we have moved into 5 year old status - she has changed her mind on Halloween a bit as well. Suddenly she is frightened of the skeletons and other decorations that have been up every year since she was little. Also we have moved from being a princess the last two years to wanting to be a vampire this year. Of course we have to make sure we are checking things off the list - cape check, teeth, a 'v' on her forehead. She was also talking about turning into a bat (I don't think that will happen.) Hopefully we can make this happen for her. I am sure her brother is going to go as himself or maybe a farmer this year. He is 1 (almost 2) for goodness sake. Who cares. :)

Alright. I did take pictures of the shed and I still haven't posted them. That is why I like the camera on my phone so much. EASY! FAST! CONVENIENT! md - I think I need a new phone.

Night!

I need to catch up!

So it has been almost a month since my last post.
Blogging has gone out of favor with most of my friends.
I also found out in the last two weeks that my camera lens on my phone is scratched.
So blogging has been hard.

Today MD and his Dad are putting up a storage shed. My nephew is also here - alternating between hanging out with the kids and helping outside. We have been talking about doing this for years. Unfortunately for the guys - it is a cold, wet day. I will try to take pictures and post them here.

I have been dealing with a cold, sinus infection, H1N1?, cough for the last two months. Not fun. My only consolation is that I haven't infected my family. I worry about my son getting sick because he deals with asthma. It is just hard to have sick kids. So I hope they can stay well.

Okay - I am going out to consumer reports to see how much cameras are these days.

Thanks for catching up with me.

Chokecherries

We put the kids to work this past weekend picking wild plums and
chokecherries. Fun was had by all.

Saturday Bits

It's Saturday at 10a and I am ready for nap.

My daughter wants me to explain something to her and when I said I didn't want to - she asked if it was because I was scared.

This morning we went to our favorite coffee shop and listened to two guys talk about sports and how the Vikings suck and how the Twins suck and blah blah blah. They weren't overboard about it but it was hard not to feel defensive about a hometown boy on the team. Funny. I wouldn't have cared before Sage was a Viking.

MD is off singing today so I am home with under-the-weather kids and I am under-the-weather myself.

Happy Saturday and thanks for catching up with me!

playing with fire - kind of

My neighbor let the D-man water her plants one morning.
Every time he would swing the hose, I would cringe - just waiting for him to get her wet.
It did happen eventually.
But it was pretty cute.
